Mental Health and Absence
Mental Health and Absence
Mental health issues are becoming increasingly common in young people.
The DfE does not recognise anxiety and school avoidance as a justified reason for authorised absence. Instead it advices that the school and parents work together to avoid school absence for the student and find supportive strategies to ensure school attendance.
If you need help with your child, please see the main contacts below in school:
Year 7 / 8 and 9: Miss Waddington N.Waddington@beccleshighschool.org
Year 10 and 11: Miss Campbell and Mrs Palmer
K.campbell@beccleshighschool.org and E.Palmer@beccleshighschool.org
Inclusion Officer:
Miss D Hammond: D.hammond@beccleshighschool.org
Attendance SLT Lead / Attendance Officer:
Miss C Goode: C.goode@beccleshighschool.org , L.homes@beccleshighschool.org
The school is here to support students. We have a school nurse come in every Tuesday lunch time, anyone is welcome to attend.
If your child is suffering with mental health issues or anxiety, it is important to take them to their GP for a discussion and referral if needed.
